How to Design a Preform Mold?

Preform mold design is a complex process involving materials science, mechanical design and manufacturing processes. The following is a simplified guide to help you understand the basic elements of how to design Preform mold. Please note that actual applications may require more detailed design calculations and precise material selection.

1.Project definition and requirements analysis

Determine product specifications: clarify the inner diameter, outer diameter, length, wall thickness and material type of the preform (the preform can be customized according to the bottle)
Production output requirements: Understand the expected production quantity to determine the number of cavities in the mold
Equipment compatibility: Ensure mold design meets the specifications of your existing injection molding machine

2.Selection of mold material

Mold steel: According to the material characteristics and production conditions of Preform mold, select appropriate mold steel, such as H13, P20, S136, etc., to ensure the hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance of the mold.

3.Mold structure design

Cavity design: Design a precise cavity according to the preform size, including precise control of inner diameter, outer diameter and length
Mandrel design: used to form the inner hole of the preform, the impact of thermal expansion and contraction on dimensional accuracy needs to be considered
Ejection mechanism: A well-designed ejection or pull-out mechanism ensures that the preform can be smoothly ejected from the mold.
Cooling system: Set up effective cooling water channels to control mold temperature and improve production efficiency and product quality.

PET Preform Mold
  1. Mold manufacturing and assembly

Precision machining: using CNC machining, EDM and other technologies to ensure high precision of mold parts
Heat treatment: Heat treatment according to material requirements to improve mold hardness and service life

Assembly and debugging: Carefully assemble the mold, test the mold, and adjust to the best working condition

Manufacturing Process

  1. After the mold parts are precision machined by CNC, they are heat treated to increase the hardness.
  2. Before assembly, all components are strictly inspected to ensure dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
  3. After the mold assembly is completed, conduct multiple mold trials to adjust to the best working condition.
  4. Before formal production, conduct first-piece inspection to confirm that product quality meets standards.
